TRACK: Area athletes shine in first day of districts

The first day of the District One Championships is always filled with anticipation. While many of the field events are decided on Friday, the majority of the champions in the field and on the track are decided on Saturday. However, that makes day one all the more important and area track athletes made the most of their opportunities.

Both District One Class AA and Class AAA compete at this championship meet. The Class AA teams that are competing included Lower Moreland, Christopher Dock, Phil-Mont Christian, Springfield and St. Basil Academy, all of which represented well.

After winning the Bicentennial League title, Dock’s Lauren Anderson took the silver medal in the high jump. Nikki Clemens, who also came away from BAL’s with a few medals, won the pole vault and qualified third for the 110 hurdles. Bailey Kratz, an exceptional runner and jumper for Dock, finished second in the long jump. Keerece Seuren also took home a bronze medal in the discus.
