VOLLEYBALL: Cheltenham sweeps Upper Dublin

Neighborhood and Suburban One Continental Conference rivals Cheltenham and Upper Dublin played each other at a time in the season where both teams are looking toward next season. It was the Cardinals’ Senior Night, which provided some extra motivation for the home side, but in the end Cheltenham was simply the more improved team.

Cheltenham swept past Upper Dublin in three games, although the Cardinals made it very difficult in front of a raucous crowd. The home team made it close in all three sets, but Cheltenham never appeared to be in immediate danger of losing a game. With good net play, Joe Woodson’s spark off the bench and the ability to keep points alive, the Panthers took a confidence-building road win.

“They brought a great crowd,” Cheltenham coach Chris Manser said. “But they battled through it. It became a little chippy, but they fought through that. Upper Dublin defends extremely well, so I was nervous the whole time, but these guys have really pushed for the win.”
