SOFTBALL: Gwynedd Mercy Academy walks past Sacred Heart

With cloudy skies, intermittent showers and temperatures that were too warm to wear a sweater and too cold for shirtsleeves, Thursday was not the best day for a walk — unless you were a member of Gwynedd Mercy Academy’s softball team.

Walks were on the agenda for the Monarchs in their game against Sacred Heart — lots of walks. And, walks played a major role in Gwynedd Mercy’s offense.

Sacred Heart pitcher McKenna Schneider walked 16 GMA batters in Thursday’s game — and it was just a three-inning game. She walked eight and gave up eight runs in the first inning, walked four and gave up four runs in the second inning and walked four and gave up six runs in the third inning.

Then, the game ended via the mercy rule after the bottom of the third at Emlen Tunnell Park. Gwynedd Mercy returned home with an 18-2 Athletic Association of Catholic Academies win and improved its league record to 2-4. The Monarchs are now 3-6 overall while the Lions dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-5 in AACA competition.
