BASEBALL: Mengel shuts down Hatboro-Horsham

A solid Bryce Mengel outing bookended by runs in the first and sixth innings was enough for the North Penn baseball team to earn back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Mengel struck out three while shutting out Hatboro-Horsham over the final five innings, while Brady West broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the sixth with his RBI single as the host Knights edged the Hatters 2-1 in a Suburban One Continental Conference matchup Monday afternoon.

“Ever since the game before Quakertown (a 13-12 loss to Central Bucks East on April 5), we’ve been playing really well,” North Penn senior catcher Eddie Posavec said. “It’s kind of been building every single game. We’ve been having good practices and getting out there every day and just working hard. Just coming together as a team.
