SOFTBALL: Upper Merion explodes past Wissahickon

For Montgomery Media / GENE WALSH Upper Merion's Olivia Sborlini rounds third base on her way to a home run during Wednesday’s Suburban One American Conference action against Wissahickon.
With six freshman starters, Upper Merion High’s softball team is really young this season. But, the team made up predominantly of underclassmen does not play young.

The Vikings don’t look like little ninth-graders. They don’t play like rookies. And, they don’t hit like a crew that lacks experience at the plate. These Vikes are big and they have big bats.

On Monday afternoon, they unleashed a barrage of hits in their game at Wissahickon -- 13 hits including five of the extra-base variety. The Vikings scored five runs in one inning and had two other innings when they scored four runs.

When it was all over, Upper Merion returned home with a 15-5 Suburban One American Conference win over the Trojans.
