PHILLIES NOTES: Nix is delivering in the pinch

PHILADELPHIA – The Phillies have had their brutal moments at the plate in the opening few weeks of this season, with scoring 10 runs during a six-game road trip, going four consecutive games without a walk, and scoring 10 runs in their last seven losses among the signs of problems.

Where the Phillies have not had an issue is delivering in the pinch. In Sunday night's 7-3 win, it was Laynce Nix's RBI double in the pinch that tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, before the Phils put up four runs in the eighth to secure the win.

Entering Monday night's series-opening game with the Pirates, the Phillies were hitting .313 (10-for-32) in the pinch with two doubles, three home runs and 10 RBI. One of the doubles and two of the homers belong to Nix, who is 5-for-10 as a pinch hitter. In fact, he has more hits in the pinch than he does as a starter (3-for-22).
