SOFTBALL: Souderton rolls past Central Bucks West

The Souderton Area softball team was intent on getting its first conference win on Tuesday against rival Central Bucks West, and it was the offense that put the Big Red firmly in control right from the start.

Sarah Derstine doubled in a run in the first to put the Indians in front and Dayna Shelly belted an inside-the-park, three-run homer to left to extend the margin to 4-0 in the third.

The visitors soon batted around in the fifth and put the game out of reach.

“That’s kind of how we’ve been going,” Souderton coach Courtney Hughes said. “It’s a couple runs here, a couple there. It’s not just one, one, one. And that’s because of the hitters we have, just one after another. When they are on, they’re hard to pitch to.”
The Big Red’s seven-run fifth inning capped an 11-1 Suburban One Continental Conference win over the Bucks on a warm afternoon at Central Bucks West.
