GIRLS BASKETBALL: Mount St. Joseph pulls away from Villa Maria for AACA title

If anyone thought that Alex Louin and Mount St. Joseph were going to let Villa Maria beat them two consecutive years in the ACAA final, they had another thing coming.

Top-seeded Mount downed Villa, 57-41, in the AACA conference final. Led by Louin’s 18-point performance, Mount played solid defense and hit timely three-pointers to take control of the game in the second quarter. Although Villa never completely went away until midway through the quarter , it was clear from early on that it was the Magic’s title to lose and they played that way.

“It’s a terrific competitive rivalry between these two programs, mostly because we’ve been successful for so long,” Mount coach John Miller said. “Usually the championship game is between us and Villa Maria. We have a lot of respect for them, I think my girls came out and played a really terrific game.”
