PAISSA BASKETBALL: Germantown Academy boys, girls advance to state final

Being installed in the preseason as the favorite to win league and state championships isn’t exactly what it’s all cracked up to be. The expectations bring a lot of pressure.

“All year long everybody said, ‘GA should win, GA should win, GA should win,’” said Germantown Academy coach Jim Fenerty. “It’s really hard to do when everybody expects you to win. But these guys have been able to pull it off. Going undefeated in the Inter-Ac, that was our goal. All this stuff is icing on the cake.”

Friday night in the semifinals of the PAISSA Tournament semifinals against a talented Haverford School team was no walk in the park for the Patriots. For three quarters, it was a dogfight, but GA finally pulled away down the stretch to earn a 68-52 victory and a spot in the private school state final on Saturday.
