GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lower Moreland holds on to upset Jenkintown

It was evident from the opening tip-off that Lower Moreland came to play. It was a quiet confidence and a fierce look in their eyes during warmups that gave it away. They didn’t care if they were playing at Jenkintown’s gym, their gym or the moon, they were going to the Bicentennial League final. They had to sweat out the final eight minutes, but they got what they came for.

“All I know is that we wanted to beat this team really badly,” Lower Moreland guard Lauren Killion said. “We wanted to keep our season going and we knew we had to come out fast. We needed to take it to them right away and that’s what we did.”

Lower Moreland defeated top-seeded Jenkintown 33-31 in a game that was not as close as the scoreboard shows. The Lady Lions, led by Killion’s 10 points, dominated the second quarter and held it in the third. Although the Lady Drakes made a fierce comeback in the fourth, fate was kind to Lower Moreland.
