GIRLS BASKETBALL: Upper Moreland tops Springfield, ends long league losing streak

By Mike Prince

Before Friday night’s meeting between Upper Moreland and Springfield, the two teams had played each other twice this season. Springfield won both meetings.

Before Friday night, Upper Moreland hadn’t won a Suburban One American Conference game since the 2005-06 season. Since then, the Lady Bears have had three new coaches, including Ed Decker, who is currently in his first season with the club.

So when the Lady Bears dominated from the very start and came out with a 56-35 win over Springfield in a league meeting at Upper Moreland High School, you’d think that Decker would’ve been surprised with the outcome.

“We’ve been hurt and we’ve been really down since the beginning of the year, but we’re slowly getting healthy and I know that we’re a competitive team,” he said. “We showed that tonight and we are better than how we’ve been playing.”
