GIRLS BASKETBALL: Mount Lebanon edges Archbishop Wood
Out of the 15 games on tap at the 12th Annual Scholastic Play-By-Play Classic at Philadelphia University on Saturday, one matchup in particular stood out.
Archbishop Wood, the winner of the last three PIAA Class AAA championships, took on Mount Lebanon, the Pittsburgh-area high school which has won three of the last four Class AAAA championships.
And as one might expect from two teams who never go down without a fight, it came down to the final second.
A half-court prayer from Wood senior guard Jackie Pierson rimmed out at the buzzer and allowed Mt. Lebanon to escape with a 52-50 win over the Lady Vikings in the ninth game of the all-day tournament.
