BOYS BASKETBALL: Norristown eases past Upper Merion
A frustrated Upper Merion squad was unable to hold onto early
success as Norristown cruised to a 63-36 victory. In their second meeting this
season, Upper Merion had high hopes of making this Suburban One Ameircan
Conference matchup go differently than last time, but as the Vikings learned
once again, old habits die hard.
Early on, it seemed that Upper Merion had a recipe for success
with a 2-3 zone, unlike other divisional teams they had the size to match up
bigs down low. The score was knotted at 10-10 after the first quarter, and on
consecutive jumpers by Justin Lewis in the second it seemed like they might
start to put Norristown on their heels.
“We had a lead in the second quarter on back-to-back scores,
but after sloppy ballhandling we allowed them to get one back right as their
first squad came back into the game,” said Norristown coach Francis Bowe.
“That’s a situation where we have to convert, we could have extended the lead
and put the pressure back on them, but they came back with confidence.”
