GIRLS BASKETBALL: St. Basil uses three-ball to down Cheltenham

Some teams live by it, others die by it but no one can dispute the impact of the three-point shot. In St. Basil’s win over Cheltenham, the three-ball turned a close game into a rout, quickly.

St. Basil used a 20-point second quarter, which included five of the team’s 10 treys in the game, to spark a 47-22 win over Cheltenham in the Play by Play Girls Classic at Philadelphia University. Led by Kate Skalski’s 10-point MVP performance, St. Basil used outside shooting and a stout defense to make life difficult for Cheltenham from the end of the first quarter on.

“When we are hitting threes, we’re a force,” St. Basil coach Terry Mancini said. “But we generate a lot of our offense off steals. Molly Greenberg and Kalee Fuegel are one of the best guard tandems in the league and I think they showed that in this game.”
