WRESTLING: GA rallies past Malvern Prep
By Dennis C. Way
Nary a Germantown Academy wrestler had ever seen anything like it.
Through nearly a decade of winning unbeaten Inter-Academic League championships, the Patriots had locked up nearly every one of their 41 straight league victories after about six matches.
But No. 42 Friday afternoon was different. Here was host GA, with four bouts remaining in its match against Inter-Ac rival Malvern Prep, trailing the Friars by 14 points. One Malvern win with bonus points would snap the streak and for all intents and purposes end the Patriots’ Inter-Ac title run at eight.
Then, just when things appeared to be at their most dire, GA showed exactly why it won all of those previous titles.
