BOYS BASKETBALL: Souderton falls short of CB South

By Mike Cabrey

John Kanas had a good chance at the buzzer to send Friday night’s game into overtime. But like almost everything lately, the shot did not go the Souderton boys basketball team’s way.

With visiting Central Bucks South up two with 2.5 seconds left, Kanas made a steal off the inbounds, yet his fall-away jumper from the baseline was off-target and the Titans held on for a 39-37 Suburban One Continental Conference victory.

“He’s going to make the next one,” said Indians first-year coach Pete Chimera of Kanas. “He’s had three shots now to either tie or win us games. And he’s going to make the next one.”

Kanas finished with a game-high 18 points for Souderton (6-5, 4-2 conference), which led for most of the contest as both sides struggled with scoring and turnovers. However, Danny Giaquinto collected all 10 of his points in the fourth quarter as the Titans (7-5, 4-2) rallied to end a six-game losing streak to the Indians.
