BOYS BASKETBALL: Abington shows depth in rout of William Tennent

By Nick Iuele

It’s tough to beat a team that essentially has two starting fives on its roster. Abington has a great set of starters, but the bench is a force to be reckoned with too.

Save maybe the first five minutes of the game, the Ghosts were in complete control throughout their 74-39 Suburban One National Conference win over William Tennent. Led by Jordon Simmons’ 16 points, Abington had five players with nine-plus points. Ten of 13 Ghosts on the roster put the ball in the net and even when the starters weren’t in the game, the offense never missed a beat. Second unit guys such as Michael Griffin (10 points) and Amir Hintin (six points in the second quarter) made sure of that.

“Our guys came out and played the right way,” Abington coach Charles Grasty said. “They played hard, played unselfish and passed the ball well. Our second unit comes to practice every day and works their tail off. I feel like we can go 10-12 deep. The guys get at each other in practice. It’s fun to watch.”
