BASEBALL: Upper Moreland rolls over Marple Newtown

Upper Moreland is tired of being disrespected because it plays in District One Class AAA. Tuesday afternoon the Bears took out their frustrations on Marple Newtown as the two squared off in a second round game of the District One playoffs.

“We look around and we hear what people say and what people write and we know that we’re a [Class] AAA team,” Upper Moreland coach Ernie Rehr said. “There are bigger schools around, we know there are other reputations out there, but we kind of held a grudge and today was an opportunity to show everybody else that we belong in the conversation and we’re a good team.”

The Bears did all their scoring in the first two innings and it would be more than enough as they put up three in the first and nine in the second to cruise to a 12-0 victory. After Upper Moreland sent 14 batters to the plate in the second inning to extend its lead to 12, the run support only heightened the confidence of pitcher Charlie Hooker.
